There has been growing concern among health authorities and coroners about its availability in the past five years as it rapidly increased as a method of pharmacological suicide, with doctors describing some of those deaths as “excruciating”.Įarly last year, the Therapeutic Goods Association amended its poisons regulations to capture all products with concentrations of the substance above 15 per cent after the study of 17 deaths reported to state and territory coroners in 20 where it was involved. The substance is a crystalline powder with broad industrial applications.
